Bachelor of Communication
Graduates of the Bachelor of Communication will have:
- a thorough and well-rounded understanding of media, society, and communication practice in one or more communication disciplines, such as journalism, public relations, creative writing and literature, intercultural communication, media and cultural studies, and creative industries like photography, popular music, video, and digital production.
- the ability to apply research principles and techniques in a communication industry setting in a variety of public and professional contexts.
- understanding of the major issues in communication and society, as well as how these concepts develop, change, and take different forms
- To communicate effectively, one must have knowledge of cross-cultural competence, global awareness, and a sense of social justice, as well as professional and personal ethical reflection, a dedication to lifelong learning, and civic engagement.
SKILLS
Graduates of the Bachelor of Communication will have:
- conceptual abilities to probe, research, and evaluate knowledge about media, society, and communication
- To investigate, gather information, analyze, and synthesize knowledge about communication generally, with depth in particular disciplines such as journalism, public relations, creative writing and literature, intercultural communication, media and cultural studies, and creative industries such as photography, popular music, video, and digital production

- abilities in creative expression and communication to express ideas, work both independently and with others to produce effective communications in a variety of difficult career contexts.

APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Graduates of the Bachelor of Communication program will be able to use their knowledge and abilities in a variety of public, professional, creative, and/or academic pathways, as follows:
- with initiative and discernment in their research, theories, and approaches, they can effectively communicate complex issues.
- with well-thought-out decisions supported by verifiable data and evidence, communicating those decisions to audiences large and small.
- when making communication decisions, exercise critical, ethical, creative, and imaginative thinking
- with reference to relevant communication contexts
- by using oral, written, visual, digital, and interpersonal communication in a professional, creative, and accountable manner to contribute to the dissemination of ideas and societal improvement.
Graduates will be qualified for employment in the media industries of journalism, public relations, business communications, new media, film, and television. They will be equipped to perform exceptionally well in managerial, marketing, and creative positions in the cultural communications sector. The foundation for a prosperous career in communication and related fields will be this degree.

Description
This degree program is provided by Griffith University to give students the chance to gain knowledge and skills that are crucial to the media and communication sectors. There will be in-depth coverage of media research and analysis techniques, film and media history knowledge, journalism development techniques, and knowledge of new media environments, as well as broadcasting policy, regulation, and content criticism.
Recommended Study Pattern
Upon being accepted into Griffith University, you may apply for credit for prior learning which may reduce the time it will take to complete your degree.
Students are recommended to follow this study pattern:
- Study four level 1 core subjects
- Choose your two majors and start with the level 1 major subjects
- Complete one foundation subject for each of your two majors
- Complete six level 2 and 3 subjects for each of your two majors, with at least two level 3 subjects per major
- Complete one level 2 core subject
- Complete one level 3 core double subject
- Choose your electives
Award Requirements
For full-time students, the degree will typically take three years to complete. Prior to 2016, part-time students could take up to 10 years to complete the required courses for their degree. However, part-time students starting in 2016 will have eight years to complete the required courses for their degree. You can apply for credit for prior learning after being accepted to Griffith University, which could speed up the time it takes you to finish your degree.
A student must successfully finish 22 subjects, plus 1 double subject, or an equivalent, in order to be awarded a Bachelor of Communication:
- four core subjects at level 1, one core subject at level 2 and one core double subject at level 3
- the recommended level 1 foundation subjects subjects for their chosen majors
- two major sequences of six level 2 and 3 subjects each from Business Communication, Creative Writing, Journalism, Public Relations or Screen and Media Studies, with at least two subjects at level 3 for each major
- three elective subjects
Other Award Requirements
- Complete no more than 10 subjects in the degree at first year level
- Complete at least 6 subjects in the degree at third year level
- Note: A student enrolled in this program must complete a minimum of 8 second and third year subjects offered by Griffith University that are required for the Bachelor of Communication degree and that have not been credited toward another award, in accordance with the University’s Credit Transfer Policy and regardless of the amount of credit that may be given towards the Bachelor of Communication.

Students must fill out a Registration form and submit payment to Griffith University in order to be registered for this award. When the application is sent in, a $150 registration fee is due. Although prospective students are not immediately required to register for the degree program, it is advised that they do so as soon as possible in order to receive guidance on choosing credits and subjects.
